The early sculptural work of Oscar Aguirre showed a formal influence of Russian constructivism. The pieces of these years denote a study of this period and an absorption of elements such as flat shapes and large areas.
Several of the works formed diptychs in which the narrative was inclined to comment sociological and political aspects, and the works became excuses to proclaim their dissatisfaction with the social order.

They offered an ironic combination that included well-politicized symbols such as the flag, castles and profiles of Martí. To this he added sickles and hammers, his way of protesting against what he saw as a political road imposed arbitrarily on Cuban reality. At this stage he was interested in exploring various materials such as wood, metal, even ceramics. Later he discards these to concentrate on the stone, one of the oldest materials and at the same time, more difficult and delicate to work.

It was gradually abandoning the specific political aspect of Cuban society to focus on a work of a more general nature. He began to explore the possibilities that afforded him the modules and the curves to be defined by a work of clearly geometrical trend. His recent pieces can be counted among them, with a clear leaning towards abstraction. We can say that it is heading toward a universal stance that deals with shapes and volumes. It is a very "clean" and minimalist, achieving a peculiar elegance with its combination of sui generis right angles and sinuous curves in perfect harmony. A perfectionist by nature, Aguirre is concerned because their parts have an exquisite finish and a visual purity. However, he manages to avoid falling into the decoration that usually accompanies a flawless finish as their own parts.

In general, his work can be defined as objectual, in search of a classic aesthetic. Not for taste it favors the clear-cut appearance of marble, a material that we could call one of the most traditional in the ancient art of sculpture. Aguirre is a sculptor who has found his own voice, creating a line of work of a classical and balanced profile.
